ACCOUNTABLE TO: Head of Primary / After School Activities Coordinator
CONTRACT: National

Purpose

  1. To support the implementation and delivery of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for pupils within the School’s programmes of study
  2. To monitor and support the overall progress and development of pupils (academically, socially, behaviourally, emotionally)
  3. To co-facilitate a learning experience which provides pupils with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential
  4. To share and support the school’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal growth and enjoyment
  5. To show commitment to the British School of Costa Rica’s Teaching and Learning Charter (see separate document)

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Implement agreed school policies and guidelines
  • Support initiatives agreed by the Leadership Team and staff
  • Contribute to the school’s strategic plan and its implementation
  • As a Teaching Assistant (TA), deliver tailored teaching activities to pupils on either a one-to-one basis or in small groups
  • As a TA, ensure that the pupils that you support are able to engage in learning and stay on task during the lesson or activity
  • As a TA, work closely along side the classroom teacher
  • Cover class teachers in their absence assuming full responsibility for that class
  • Support the preparation of learning spaces and experiences
  • Support the social and emotional development of pupils, reporting any issues as necessary
  • Support the management of student behaviour in accordance with school policy
  • Carry out administrative duties such as preparing classroom and after school care resources, taking attendance,
  • Participate in the School’s performance management and professional development programmes
  • Contribute to whole school activities
  • Participate in off-campus excursions that might involve overnight stays
  • As After School Care Facilitator, plan and implement a variety of engaging and educational after school activities

Qualifications Essential Desirable
Bachelor’s degree in Bilingual Preschool or Bilingual Primary Education (or be in the process of obtaining one)    
Maintain a personal commitment to Professional Development    
Experience Essential Desirable
Experience working with children    
Minimum English and Spanish level: B2    
Professional Knowledge and Understanding Essential Desirable
Knowledge of the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) or InternationalPrimary Curriculum (IPC), or similar    
Understand what constitutes good practice and support for bilingual learners    
Understanding of “21st Century” pedagogical approaches    
Experience using Google Apps for Education    
Professional Skills and Attributes Essential Desirable
An understanding of child-centred learning    
An ability to motivate and inspire children    
An ability to encourage independent learning    
An ability to use ICT confidently to enhance children’s learning
