TEDxYouth@BSCR: On Saturday 16th of March, the British School hosted its inaugural, student-created TEDx event - TEDxYouth@BSCR. The audience was treated to nine wonderful speakers who passionately shared their opinions on a selection of topics as diverse as body image, language learning, homelessness and why we should care. We would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our speakers on the day, the organising team (Mariana, Caleb, Angeline, Sofia, Jimena, Daniela, Agustina, Daniela and Larissa) who have spent months preparing for this event, the event volunteers and a number of staff members who actively supported the students throughout the last few months in the planning and execution of this event.
WORKSHOP FOR PARENTS - YEARS 3, 4 and 5: We would like to invite all Years 3, 4 and 5 parents to the workshop "Bullying, our role as parents", which will be presented by the school’s Student Development Service (SDS) team. This workshop aims to provide strategies for parents to manage their children's conflicts with their peers, review protective and risk factors and give advice on how to handle information given to minors in regards to this matter.
DAY: Thursday 28th of March
TIME: 8:15 am
FORMER STUDENT AND DOCUMENTARY DIRECTOR GUEST SPEAKER: On Tuesday 5th of March, Cristina Robles, an ex-student from our school, presented her documentary to Year 9 to Year 12 students. The documentary is called "There is a boat in Madrid and nobody is talking about it" and is about an elderly couple in Madrid, whose lives have been shaped by cycling. Students learned about the process of making a documentary, using storytelling in film, alternative means of transportation such as cycling, and how the music for the film was composed, as the composer, Oscar Jiménez, gave them a didactic concert.
MUSICAL THEATRE WORKSHOP CANCELLED: Sadly, we did not have enough students to open up a group for the Musical Theatre workshop. Please contact the CAJA to receive a full reimbursement. We hope to offer this course again in the second semester.
THE EAST MODEL UNITED NATIONS: The weekend of 16th and 17th of March saw over 30 students from Years 7-11 donning professional business attire to participate in 10 hour days at The East Model United Nations conference held at SEK International School. The students adopted the role of country delegates and were involved in debates ranging from the Security Council, General Assembly and Women’s rights to the World Health Organisation and Model United Nations Experiences. All were fantastic ambassadors for our school. The following students received special recognition in the closing ceremony - Ariana Chacón, Alfredo Arias, Daniel Chen, Luis Campos, Diego Laurencich, Fabio Piampiano, Andrea Olivas, Lina Laurencich, Gabriel Mejía and Carmen Avilés. All the students who attended the conference were excellent representatives of the BSCR and Miss K and Mr. W thank them, and their parents, for helping to make the weekend such a successful experience.
RESCHEDULED END OF SEMESTER EXAM DATES: Due to logistical reasons, we have made some minor changes to the end of semester exam schedule. For all Secondary students the end of semester exam week is now Wednesday 29th of May until Tuesday 4th of June (this is one day earlier than previously published). Due to Year 6 to Year 8 students having fewer exams, Wednesday 29th of May will be a study day for those year levels. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this change.
