UPDATES AND NOTIFICATIONS

INTERNATIONAL FAIR: We would like to invite all members of our community to our annual International Fair, which is being held tomorrow, Saturday 29th of February between 9:00 am and 2:30 pm.  The theme for this year’s Fair is ‘Global Awareness’.  All proceeds that are raised on this day are used to support the service learning projects of our students.

COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS): Due to the increase in Covid-19 cases around the world in recent days we thought it was important to share with our community our action plan for dealing with such situations.  Although to date the risk posed by Covid-19 in Costa Rica is very low (there are currently no reported cases in the country) we are still taking preventive measures to ensure that good health and hygiene habits are observed at all times.  These measures, which have been adopted from the Ministry of Health recommendations, include ensuring that handwashing is both effective and regular, that the physical environment is cleaned frequently and thoroughly and that any coughing or sneezing is done into either a tissue or the crook of the elbow/sleeve.

In the event that a significant number of cases are reported in Costa Rica, our Health and Safety Committee, in conjunction with the School’s Administration, will review all of the latest news before determining an appropriate course of action.  If, for reasons of health and safety, it is determined necessary to temporarily close the school we have devised ‘Work from Home’ protocols so that the impact on student learning is minimised.  These protocols will involve the teacher remotely facilitating learning through a range of online mediums such as Google Classroom.  In the event of a closure, instructions will be sent to all parents and students with details on how they can continue to work remotely.

While we recognize that the current risk posed by Covid-19 in Costa Rica is very low we would also like to reassure our community that the health and wellbeing of our students will always be a high priority for us. As such we will continue to monitor the development of the virus and will provide you with any updates as and when necessary.  If you have any further questions or comments then please do not hesitate to contact us on healthandsafety@bscr.ed.cr

SCHOOL COMMUNICATIONS: We would like to ask all members of our community to please ensure that they use the correct email address when communicating with the School:

SRT UNIVERSITY FAIR: We are very pleased to announce that on Tuesday 3rd of March from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm in the school gymnasium, Year 10, 11 and 12 students will have the opportunity to attend the SRT University Fair.  Representatives from 25 universities from Europe, North and South America will visit us.  Parents are welcome to attend.  You can access more information about this event in the following link: SRT University Fair poster

STUDENT COUNCIL: We would like to congratulate both AMP and KAI student political parties on an excellent election campaign.  All Secondary students voted for their preferred party this week with KAI emerging victorious.  As a result our Student Council for 2020/21 will be comprised of:
President:  Alberto Castro (Year 11)
Vice-President: Pedro Cortez (Year 10)
Secretary: Valentina Sosto (Year 10)
Treasurer: Melania Guerra (Year 12)
Vocal: Daniel Araya (Year 8)

We would also like to take the opportunity to recognise and thank the students who made up our Electoral Tribune for this year: Daniela Murillo (Year 12), Jorge Arredondo (Year 12), Jimena Salto (Year 9), Leonardo Jiménez (Year 7) and Ariana Rojas (Year 6).  These five students did an outstanding job in ensuring that the student elections remained fair while also adhering to the requirements of a transparent democratic electoral process.
