We would like to thank all members of our community for their understanding and collaboration on Wednesday due to us having a home learning day on account of our campus having no electricity between 8am and 4pm.
 
Evacuation Drill
On Friday the 4th of October all students, staff members and visitors participated in a whole-school evacuation drill.  While our Health and Safety Team identified a few areas for improvement, we were very impressed with the high level of compliance with our safety procedures shown by all members of our community.

Dance Competition Success
Congratulations to Abigail Morales (Y3A), Katrina Qiu Liu (Y3B) and Sarah Goldcwaig (Y3B) who recently enjoyed great success through their participation in the international All Dance Competition in the category of Group Ballet Repertory ages 8 – 10. Steam Week – Primary
Next week we will be celebrating Steam Week in our Primary School.  The week aims to celebrate and promote the recent work we have been doing at all levels in our Primary School related to integrating STEAM into our curriculum.  Throughout the week each year level will be working on four challenges, which are related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and promote creativity, teamwork and competition.  Each of the groups will be presenting their final products on Friday the 18th of October as we celebrate the wonderful STEAM work that our Primary students have been doing. (Parents will receive an invitation to this activity in the coming days)
 
Year 6 (2025) Secondary Induction Fair and Meeting
We would like to invite all current Year 5 parents to a Secondary induction meeting and fair on Tuesday the 22nd of October between 8:10am and 10:10am.  The meeting will consist of two parts: the first part will be a general presentation about the Secondary School while the second part will provide Year 5 parents with an opportunity to speak with teachers from each of our Secondary Departments so they can learn about our curriculum and assessment approaches.

Mentors Exchange
On Tuesday of this week the 2023/24 Mentors joined the 2024/25 mentors, along with the Leadership Team, Jorge Sanchez, Ana Lourdes Baumgartner, Sundey Christensen and Mentor Advisor, Diego Solis to both celebrate the work of the 2023/24 mentors while also welcoming the 2024/25 mentors to their new responsibilities.  After speeches from Mr. Solis, Leonardo Jimenez (Y11) and Teacher Cleo, our new mentors were invited to sign a document detailing their commitments as a mentor before receiving their mentor badge from one of the departing 2023/24 mentors. Photo

Congratulations to Roberto Zúñiga Casado (Year 11) on being crowned champion in the Under 18 category of the VII Torneo Nacional de Menores Nuevos Valores 2024 held by the Costa Rican Tennis Federation.
 
X Costa Rican Philosophy Olympiad 2024
As a part of the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Costa Rican Philosophy Olympiad, we would like to congratulate our students Roberto Zúñiga and Diego Víquez from Year 11 for their participation in this competition held last Saturday, September 21, at the University of Costa Rica.  On this occasion, 60 students from 38 public and private schools from all over the country attended. Both students, through their dissertation on topics related to Latin American philosophy, achieved an excellent result; Diego obtained a silver medal and Roberto an honorable mention; thus demonstrating their commitment to philosophical practice and reflection.
 
Art Exhibition and Musical Performances
On Thursday 3rd October the Art Department hosted a spectacular evening filled with a vast array of creative talent. It was a phenomenal success that showcased a vast array of highly creative Year 12IB, Year 11NB and Year 10 IGCSE Visual Art students exhibiting their artwork in the school auditorium. Live music was performed by the very talented Year 7, Year 11 NB and 12 IB musicians and their wonderfully diverse musical accomplishments.  Congratulations to all the students and staff members involved:

PSAT 2024 – For Year 10 and Year 11 students only
The PSAT/NMSQT is the digital pre-SAT exam or practice test for the SAT; a test widely used for university admissions in the USA and other countries. The test measures knowledge and skills in reading, writing and maths that students learn in the classroom and which they need to succeed in college and a career.   The exam will be on Saturday, October 26 at 7:45 at the school Auditorium.  The cost of the exam is 22,000 colones. To register your student there are two payment options:

SAT (for Year 11 and 12 students)
The next SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) will take place on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, at the school. The registration deadline is Friday, October 18th. The test fee is $111, payable online. For more information on 2024 test dates and deadlines, please visit the International SAT Dates.  The SAT is now digital, and students are allowed to use their own computers or tablets. For practice and preparation resources, please visit the SAT Practice and Preparation Information.  We recommend that students registering for the first time schedule a meeting with Ana Lourdes Baumgartner, University Counselor, to complete the registration process.  The SAT is a standardized test administered by The College Board. Many universities worldwide, particularly in the United States, consider it either a requirement or an optional part of the application process.
