General
Matricula 2025
The School’s Accounting Department have requested that, for the immediate future, we continue with the existing process for the payment of the Matricula 2025 (Registration Fee). This means that we will not yet require parents to deliver the corresponding paperwork personally at the School, but that they can continue to follow the existing procedure. This procedure has been explained in previous communications and starts with the return of both the completed Medical Form and the Certificate of Acceptance of Regulations sent to smadriz@bscr.ed.cr and not to the School’s general email addresses.
Nevertheless, all other existing conditions and requirements will apply, including the payment of a late fee and the provision that we cannot reserve space for students for whom the Registration Fee has not been paid.
Christmas Project 2024
We are pleased to announce that the Christmas Project 2024 has begun. As is a tradition at the British School, every year we have the opportunity to give gifts to children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. For families who wish to participate in this initiative, we will provide a tag with the name, age, and organization of the child they will be supporting. Starting next week, (from November 4th to 8th), we will be distributing the tags. Along with the tag, students will receive a circular with more detailed information. In the website attached below, you will be able to find all the information about the organizations that we will be helping this Christmas. Link
On behalf of the Christmas Project 2024 Organizing Committee (Luisana Gómez, Isabella Moya, Maripaz Asís, Isabella D’arsie, Daniela Martínez and the Service Learning Department) thank you very much for collaborating in this special activity.

TV Show Project
We want to thank all the children who, over the past two weeks, have submitted their logo proposals and section ideas for the project. It has been a pleasure to see the enthusiasm, interest, creativity, responsibility, and commitment that you have shown. Thank you very much!
This week, we have been reviewing the section proposals and have made a preliminary selection of those that we consider feasible, practical to execute, and possible to record at the school. Unfortunately, not all proposals can be included in the program due to limited time, the high level of pre-production and post-production complexity required, and the fact that we are at the end of the school year. However, we will keep them in mind for possible activities that the library will organize during 2025.
The librarian has been sending emails to the parents of the selected children to request their approval and to start the recording and editing process next Monday, 4th of November.
Secundaria
Tennis Success
Congratulations to Cristina Zúñiga Casado (Year 7) on being crowned champion at the Central American U14 Championship (CONTECA Annual Circuit) which was held at the Fred Maduro High Performance Centre in Panama between the 15th and 19th of October.
National Theater – Year 6
As part of the curricular activities for the Year 6 Spanish course, students visited the National Theatre to enjoy the performance of “To the Moon”, an adaptation of Jules Verne’s novel From the Earth to the Moon. On this occasion, they were able to observe a creative representation where different versions of the same historical event converged. The performance was full of music, colour, and accompanied by the use of technology to generate different environments on stage. Finally, the students also enjoyed the performance of Fabián Soto, a graduate of our School who studied musical theatre at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and is now a co-star of the play. Both Fabián and the play are excellent examples for our students to pursue their dreams and strive to achieve them.

Year 9 visit to Hacienda La Chimba
On Wednesday, October 30th, the Department of Human Sciences organized a trip to Hacienda la Chimba in Santa Ana with the Year 9 generation. Part of the objectives of this trip was for the students to learn about various political, social and economic aspects related to the development of coffee in the country. Early in the morning, the students took a walk through the paths and coffee plantations of the hacienda. They then enjoyed lunch, and the activity concluded with a guided tour through the traditional houses of coffee farmers, workers and the process of harvesting and processing coffee. We thank the students for their interest in this topic and the enthusiasm they displayed throughout the visit. Photo / Photo / Photo / Photo / Photo
Global Politics – Virtual Visit
Year 11 IB Global Politics students and staff enjoyed a virtual visit this week from Angela Mazer Marshall who shared her experiences as an international programme manager specialising in humanitarian work. She discussed her experiences with the ‘International Rescue Committee’ and ‘Save the Children’ including her time working in emergency relief after the earthquake in Turkey, her work with women and children in refugee camps in Syria and with children impacted by the war in Ukraine. The class discussed the role and impact of INGOs in Global Politics and the challenges faced by them in 2024. We are looking forward to welcoming more voices representing the international community in our Global Politics classes!
