End of Year Thanks
As 2024 rapidly draws to a close we would like to express our gratitude to all members of our learning community that have made this such a successful year at The British School. In addition to our wonderful students and parents, we would particularly like to thank our staff members for their hard work and professionalism in consistently providing our students with high-quality learning experiences on a daily basis. We wish all members of our learning community a happy, healthy and enjoyable vacation period and we look forward to the start of the 2025 academic year.
Last Day of Classes
The last day of classes for students from Early Years 1 to Year 9 is Wednesday 277h of November. Please note that this is a non-uniform day and classes will end at 12 noon for all students.

Congratulations to Felipe Araya (Year 4), Leticia Chavarria (Year 5), Felipe Hidalgo (Year 5), Arturo Chavarria (Year 7), and Tomás Hidalgo (Year 9) on being selected to represent Costa Rica in the World Racquetball Championship, which is being held in Guatemala in December.

On Monday, November 18, Year 4 had an assembly about space. They shared what they learned in the quarter, including fascinating facts about planets, the International Space Station, and space. The assembly showed their interest and excitement about space. Photo
Spirit Week in Primary
Please note for the last three days of term we will be relaxing the uniform policy to some extent to have some festive fun in Primary! Please note the following clothing options for the last three days of term. Please note that this is optional for your child(ren)
Monday 25th November: Pyjama Day (Festive themed or normal ones)
Tuesday 26th November: Festive Hat Day (to be worn with normal school uniform)
Wednesday 27th November: Casual clothes Day
Chromebooks (Year 3 to Year 5)
As part of the preparations for the end of the school year, the Technology Department will be reviewing and performing maintenance on the Chromebooks assigned to your children. We kindly ask for your cooperation in sending the Chromebooks, along with their respective chargers, on the following dates:

On Friday our amazing Early Years 3 students will be taking part in their “Crossing Over” ceremony to celebrate their progression from Early Years into Primary. The ceremony will include a number of speeches as well as some musical performances from our Early Years 3 generation.

Important Notes:
- The final deadline for Chromebook drop-off is Monday, November 25.
- All devices must remain at the school for maintenance over the summer.
- Chromebooks will be returned to students at the beginning of the 2025 school year.
- For Year 5 students, please send the Chromebook and charger, without the case, as they will adopt the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy for the 2025 school year.

OLCOMA Maths Olympiad Final
Congratulations to the BSCR Secondary Math Olympiad Team on their participation in the OLCOMA National Final held in Tres Rios on November 11th, 12th and 13th. We have some honourable mentions and medals to show for their hard work all year long. Well done!

On Monday, November 18th, Year 10 students participated in a morning full of engaging vocational orientation activities, including:
We would like to congratulate all of our Year 11 students in recognition of their effort and dedication during the presentation of their Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Exhibitions. Each of them demonstrated deep critical analysis, creativity, and commitment in exploring essential questions about knowledge and its impact on the real world. We also want to extend a special thank you to the Year 10 students, who actively participated as observers and feedback providers, showing maturity, intellectual curiosity, and respect for the work of their senior peers. Their involvement was fundamental in enriching this educational experience. Finally, we thank the parents and teachers for their constant support, for accompanying their children and students on this learning journey, and for participating enthusiastically in such a meaningful event. Your presence and commitment strengthen our community and motivate our students to reach new goals.

Vocational Orientation – Year 10
On Monday, November 18th, Year 10 students participated in a morning full of engaging vocational orientation activities, including:
- Ubicatex Experience Presentation by Universidades.cr: Students filled out their profiles, took the Vocational Personalities test, and learned how to navigate the Universidades.cr website, which provides comprehensive information on universities and career offerings in Costa Rica.
- Mini U.S. University Fair: Representatives from five universities in Michigan introduced their diverse institutions and provided insights into the university selection and admissions process for U.S. universities.
- Presentation on Extracurricular Activities: Nicole Lipschitz, an alumna currently studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), shared valuable advice on how to choose and organize extracurricular activities effectively.
- Onboarding Session to BridgeU: Students were introduced to BridgeU, a powerful platform that helps them research universities worldwide, find matches based on their preferences, and access vocational testing tools. During this session, students completed the AchieveWorks Personality Assessment.
