Job Description
SECTION: Primary School
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Head of Primary
Main Responsibilities:
Pastoral
- Overseeing student welfare throughout the Primary School (Years 1 to 5).
- Implementing our Behaviour for Learning Policy and Procedures to ensure consistency across and within all year groups in Primary.
- Liaising with SSD on student cases which require additional support and/or follow up.
- Analyzing attendance and punctuality data following up, where required, with SDS, Form Teachers and Parents.
- Serving as the Primary Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and manage concerns related to child protection.
Learning & Teaching
- Working in conjunction with the Primary Leadership Team (PLT) and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to decide on school-wide learning and teaching goals for improved student achievement so that there is clarity and consensus.
- Setting, communication and monitoring of learning and teaching goals, standards and expectations.
- Supporting teaching through regular classroom visits and provision of formative and summative feedback to teachers about effective learning and teaching practice.
- Ensuring opportunities exist for the sharing of best practice.
- Supporting teachers to integrate learning and teaching approaches and ideas into their classroom practice, including use of technology.
- Ensuring teachers to reflect on the dimensions of effective teaching practice.
- Helping teachers to identify areas for improvement in their teaching practice.
- Ensuring that student choice and voice is actively involved in the development of learning and teaching in the Primary School.
- Line Managing the subject coordinators.
- Promoting pedagogical approaches in line with the BSCR’s shared understanding of ‘High-Quality Learning’ and ‘Personalised Learning’.
- Line managing and collaboratively work with the Curriculum Coordinator to ensure alignment between the written, taught and assessed curriculum.
- Teaching up to five periods per week (subject and year level to be defined).
- Ensuring staff follow the Assessment Policy in school leading to a common and consistent approach across the Primary School.
- Leading, managing and supporting middle leaders to ensure that formative/summative assessments contribute to high standards of progress and attainment.
- Helping teachers to gather and analyse classroom data on progress and achievement.
- Managing the reporting process to parents in conjunction with relevant members of the IT Support Office.
General
- Providing professional development and guidance to staff members on both academic and pastoral topics.
- Temporarily assuming the responsibilities of the Head of Primary during their absence.
- Representing the School at relevant events.
- Creating the annual timetable for students and staff members.
- Creating the annual class lists, in conjunction with SSD and the teaching faculty.
- Playing an active role in the BSCR Performance Management programme by line managing assigned staff.
- Participating in the recruitment processes, appointment of and induction of staff members as appropriate.
- Contributing to the admission and enrollment processes of students who enter the School including giving tours to prospective parents.
- Supporting in the purchasing and promoting of learning and teaching resources including websites and professional reading.
- Contributing to and encourage a positive school culture.
