Job Description

SECTION: Secondary School (Y6 to Y12 – 11 to 18 year-old students).
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Teacher of Science (Chemistry)
CONTRACT: International

Purpose

  • To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for pupils within the School’s programmes of study
  • To monitor and support the overall progress and development of pupils (academically, socially, behaviourally, emotionally)
  • To facilitate a learning experience which provides pupils with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential
  • To share and support the school’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal growth and enjoyment
  • To show commitment to the British School of Costa Rica’s Teaching and Learning Charter (see separate document)

Main Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate learning experiences that are pedagogically sound and are aligned with curriculum requirements
  • Implement agreed school policies and guidelines
  • Support initiatives agreed by the Leadership Team and staff
  • Contribute to the school’s strategic plan and its implementation
  • Manage student behaviour in accordance with school policy
  • Report on the development, progress and attainment of pupils
  • Communicate and co-operate with outside agencies or professionals, as necessary
  • Manage the work of support staff within the classroom
  • Participate in the School’s performance management and professional development programmes
  • Contribute to whole school and extracurricular activities
  • Participate in off-campus excursions that might involve overnight stays

A Bachelor’s degree in Education, or Bachelor’s degree in Science/Chemistry and PGCE (or equivalent)  X
