WEEK IN REVIEW: The last week has seen our community hard at work whether they have been participating in virtual learning or in-person classes.  On Friday the 26th of February all of our staff members participated in one of 21 separate committees as part of our accreditation efforts with the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO).  Each committee has been tasked with analysing a particular area of focus with regard to school life in order to identify where we currently are and what steps can be taken to move us forward in each area.  We would like to thank all members of staff for their positive participation in these important school improvement processes.

PROCEDURES FOR REQUESTING VIRTUAL LEARNING:We would like to remind parents that if a student is unable to attend in-person classes for reasons related to high risk or Covid-19, then they may request the key teaching points that are covered in any in-person lessons. In order to make this request the parent should inform the relevant Head of School (Primary – mevans@bscr.ed.cr / Secondary – bjacob@bscr.ed.cr) in writing with at least 48 hours-notice.

TRIAL OF OUR ‘WET PICK-UP PROCEDURES’: As we move closer to the onset of the rainy season we would like to run several tests of our ‘Wet Pick-Up’ procedures to ensure their maximum effectiveness. As a result, on Monday the 8th of March we will be implementing a practice ‘wet pick-up’ for our 2:00 pm departures (this means it only affects Early Years, Year 1 and Year 3 students). For parents with students in those year levels please be aware of the following procedures that will be implemented on this day only:

  • Early Years students will be picked up by parents arriving on foot at the East Gate of the Early Years Building (this is the same entrance that we have been using thus far this year).
  • Early Years students will be picked up by parents arriving by car at the Gate to Reception (this is the same place where students are dropped off in the morning).
  • Year 1 and Year 3 students will be picked up by parents arriving on foot at the South Side of the Bus Depot (this is the first entrance on the right after entering the School using the East Gate).
  • Year 1 and Year 3 students will be picked up by parents arriving by car at the Gate to Reception (this is the same place where students are dropped off in the morning).

We apologise in advance if the introduction of these procedures on Monday result in the 2:00 pm departure process taking a little longer than usual. However, we feel it is important to test these practices now so as to ensure optimum effectiveness for when the rainy season arrives.

HEALTH AND SAFETY UPDATES: We would like to thank all parents for their ongoing collaboration during the morning drop off processes. In order to ensure that both students and staff members are not placed in unnecessary danger we would like to request that students only exit their cars using the kerbside door (the right hand side of the car). Students are not permitted to exit their car on the left hand side, into the road, due to the fact that other traffic might be using this lane. If, for any reason, it is not possible for a student to exit the car by using a door on the right hand side then parents are invited to park in one of the designated car parking spaces in the middle of the car park so that students can exit their car safely outside of the flow of traffic.

In order to promote the ongoing health of our community we would like to share with you some guidance on strengthening your immune system as provided by our Infirmary. Please click on the following link for access: Strengthening Your Immune System
