Whole School

Afterschool Bus Service (4:00 pm / 4:30 pm)
Thank you to all parents who expressed an interest in an afterschool bus service departing School at either 4:00 pm or 4:30 pm each day.  We collated all of the requests and have shared it with Tranosys who are currently analysing what options they can provide for parents.  Transosys will communicate directly with those parents who expressed an interest.  If any parent is potentially interested in this afterschool bus service, but has not yet registered their interest, they can do so by emailing Tranosys directly on info@tranosys.com

Book Week: Costume Contest
The Spanish, English and French departments, along with the Primary School are organizing several activities during Book Day, which will take place on the week of April 24th. We will have a costume competition with costumes based on literary characters on Friday 28th of April. We encourage all Primary and Secondary students to start searching for or making their costumes for that day. There will be other activities during breaks and language lessons to motivate the whole community to read, and share their experiences and talents.

Parent-Teacher Meetings
Thank you to all parents who have attended parent-teacher meetings this week.  We believe that these meetings are an important component of establishing a clear and effective communication channel between the School and parents.  If any parent was unable to attend a meeting with a teacher but would like to do so, please either contact the teacher directly (using their school email address) or Reception (reception@bscr.ed.cr) to organise an appointment.

School Values
Over the next 8 weeks we are reinforcing our School Values as part of our Assemblies programme. This week we focused on ‘Respect’ and the 10 most important manners a BSCR School student should have. This area of focus will also continue next week.

Book Week in Primary
Throughout next week all students will be taking part in many different activities connected to literature. We are also very grateful for the parents that have volunteered to read stories to their child’s class throughout the week. As a reminder, Friday is Book Character costume day. Any child not wishing to take part should come to school in regular school uniform.

Year 2 Learning Trip
On Tuesday of next week, all of Year 2 are visiting a local restaurant, Grano de Oro, to learn more about healthy eating and food safety.

Secondary

Traspaso de Poderes
On Wednesday of this week, our Student Electoral Tribunal oversaw our Student Council Transfer of Powers ceremony.  In this ceremony, the student party CREA’s electoral term formally came to an end and we welcomed our incoming party, ICE, who will serve as our 2023/24 Student Council.  The ceremony was characterised by three impressive speeches by Leonardo Jiménez (President of the Student Electoral Council), Lina Laurencich (President of CREA) and Isabella D’Arsie (President of ICE Party).

IGCSE Ceremony
On Thursday the 20th of April, our Year 11 students received their official IGCSE Certificates from the Deputy Head of Mission at The British Embassy, Mr. Bryn Orton.  These certificates are awarded to students in each of their subject areas after they complete the two year IGCSE courses.  Congratulations to each of our Year 11 students once again on an outstanding set of results!

Mentors Leadership Workshop
Last Monday, the 17th of April, the Secondary Mentors attended a Leadership Workshop at Lead University, located in Plaza Rohrmoser. During the 3-hour workshop the students, along with the High School Psychologist, actively participated in a series of activities designed to understand the importance of being a good leader and creating positive change processes in others. – Photo

Year 10 Picture books
Last year, some Year 10 World Literature students designed a children’s picture book based on a novel they studied in class. In honor of Book Week, next week, we would like people to appreciate their creative efforts and, thus, we have published the best ones on the English Department website. Please feel free to share the link to the webpage or the picture books with your young readers.
