WEEK IN REVIEW: Week 22 has seen many of our staff members putting the finishing touches on our New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC – our accreditation agency) internal review report.  Over the last 18 months, ten different working committees have been analysing different elements of the learning experience that our students enjoy on a daily basis at the British School with a view to identifying both areas of strength and areas for further development.  After submitting this report to NEASC, the next step will be for a team of NEASC educational experts to undertake a virtual visit to our School at the end of September, before the Commission on International Education makes a final decision on our accreditation status.  We would like to thank all members of our staff who have worked extremely hard on this important school improvement process over the last year and a half.

Alvaro Barquero (YEAR 12) – PUBLISHED AUTHOR: We would like to congratulate Álvaro Barquero on the publication of his fantasy novel Vinderin, in the internationally recognized magazine Teen Ink. To read his novel please click on the following link – VinderinWe look forward to more publications from Alvaro in the future!  If any student would like to explore publishing their work, please talk to your English teacher or contact Ms Rojas for more information.

NATIONAL HONOUR SOCIETY – BRITISH SCHOOL CHAPTER:We are delighted to announce that this week the British School launched its own National Honour Society (NHS) Chapter.  The National Honour Society (NHS), which was founded in 1921 in the USA, is a global organisation that recognises consistently high student performance in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character.  National Honour Society membership is widely recognized by prestigious organisations around the world and currently has over 1 million members.  Students from Year 9 to Year 12 may apply for membership of the British School Chapter provided they meet the entry requirements (current Honour Roll status, a high average conduct grade and a commitment to maintaining high standards).  Please click here if you would like more information about the NHS organisation.

MOCK EXAMS: We would like to wish each of our Year 12 students the best of luck as they start their mock exams next week – 9th of August to the 17th of August.  These mock (practice) exams are an important part of the IB learning process as they provide students with a realistic simulation of what the real exams will be like at the end of the two-year course.

YEARBOOK 2021: We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation of this week’s yearbook photos – we are in the process of rescheduling them for later this quarter.  A digital yearbook will be sent to all families at the end of the year and hard copies will be made available for any parent that wishes to purchase one (details about requesting a hard copy will be sent later in Quarter 4).

HEALTH AND SAFETY UPDATE: We would like to remind community members to please ensure that they notify the School Nurse (infirmary@bscr.ed.cr) if they are experiencing symptoms that are consistent with Covid-19.  In addition, and in order to protect the wider community, we respectfully ask any community member who is exhibiting symptoms consistent with Covid-19 to please refrain from coming onto campus.
