WEEK IN REVIEW: Week 24 has seen our learning community hard at work as we continue with our Dual Learning model.  On Tuesday our Year 12 students completed their final mock exam meaning that they are now entering the last stage of preparation for their final IB exams in a couple of months – we send the very best of luck to each of them.  This week has also seen approximately half of our students pose for their Yearbook photos.  Unfortunately, we are unable to take the full class photos that we took in previous years, due to the required health and safety protocols, but we are grateful to be able to take individual photos of each of our students for inclusion in our Yearbook.  Finally, we would like to thank each of our Parent Representatives for their participation in the three Parent Council meetings this week (Early Years, Primary and Secondary).  Each meeting was extremely productive and provided us with a number of excellent suggestions and feedback.

MONDAY 23RD AUGUST:We would like to remind all members of our Community that Monday the 23rd of August will be a virtual learning day for all students.  This is due to the fact that our staff members will be receiving their second Covid-19 vaccine on this day.  Virtual learning will be provided on this day although there may be a slight disruption to the regular virtual class schedule due to the fact that teachers will not be available at their assigned appointment times.  Teachers will share the working expectations and methods directly with their students (and parents in Early Years) in advance for this day.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING FORTNIGHT: We are delighted to share that our Health and Wellbeing Fortnight is almost here (August 30th to September 10th).  To ensure that all students have the opportunity to actively participate in health and wellbeing activities on campus, we will be running this celebration for two consecutive weeks.  Due to the active focus of these weeks, students in all year levels are invited to attend school in sports / athletic clothing for their in-person days of learning.  Students are required to wear their PE uniform on days when they have PE, but on days when they do not have PE they may attend campus in:

  • Track nylon pants, sweat pants, leggings, mid-length or long shorts
  • T-shirts or football shirts
  • Sports shoes

Please note that inappropriate clothing, including short cut shorts, revealing tops, clothes that include either derogatory language or promote inappropriate brands (e.g. alcohol) and inappropriate footwear (e.g. sandals) will not be accepted.  In such cases the student will be required to either change or return home.

We will share more details about the planned activities in the coming weeks as we look forward to celebrating the promotion of health and wellness in our community.

SECONDARY PARENT-TEACHER MEETINGS: Secondary Parent-Teacher meetings will take place on Wednesday 25th of August between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm.  Please note that both virtual and in-person classes will end at 12 noon on this day for students in Year 6 to Year 12.  Secondary parents should consult the email sent on Wednesday of this week for instructions on scheduling individual meetings with teachers. If any parent did not receive this email for any reason please let us know on academics@bscr.ed.cr and we will send it to you.

NATIONAL GOLF RANKINGS: Congratulations to Paulina and Felipe Montero on their national ranking in the Junior Golf 2020-2021 season.  Paulina ended the season in first place, for a third year in a row, in the 15-18 year-old girl’s division.  Felipe ended the season in second place in the 15-18 year-old boy’s division.  Congratulations to both golfers!

HEALTH AND SAFETY: We were informed in this week’s Parent Council meetings that members of our community have been harassed by a member of the local community when exiting campus.  If this has happened to you, we would like to ask if you can please send us a brief report, with the key details, to healthandsafety@bscr.ed.cr so that we can share a summary of the incidents with the relevant authorities.
