Christmas Project

Our annual Christmas Project aims to help various organisations that look after the welfare of children (please see our website for more information: Proyecto navidad 2022).  The British School of Costa Rica is happy to continue with this tradition this year by collecting Christmas presents for young people in need.  As a result, labels containing an assigned child’s details have been assigned to each of our students in case families would like to collaborate with a gift for these children. The deadline for receiving gifts is 30^th of November.  Families who do not wish to participate in this initiative are asked to return the tags to their Form Teachers so they can be reassigned as soon as possible.

Early Years and Primary

STEM Week

Throughout this week all Primary classes have been giving extra attention to STEM (STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) activities. Our “Show and Tell” activity on Friday will be a wonderful opportunity for our students to share their ideas and creativity with other students in Primary. Please check out your Class Dojo for photos of this activity.

EY & Primary Spirit Week

Throughout next week all of Early Years and Primary will be given opportunities to show School Spirit in the following ways:

• Monday: Students can wear odd socks
• Tuesday: Students can wear House Colour T-shirts
• Wednesday: Students can wear Costa Rica football shirts/colours (Note: all students will have an opportunity to watch the football game at school).
• Thursday: Students can wear any type of hat
• Friday: Students can come to school with “crazy” hair styles.

These activities are all optional and should a student not wish to participate then they should still wear their regular school uniform.

Transition Morning

Next Monday morning, all students from Early Year 3 to Year 4 will have an opportunity to see what awaits them in January as they spend a few hours in their class for next year. During this time, they will learn about the expectations in the next year level and they will also learn a little about the topics and activities that are planned for next year. Please note that due to planned class mixing, the assigned teacher that your child visits on this day may not be your child’s actual teacher for 2023.

Choir Performances

During the final two Primary assemblies this year we will be having choir performances from all Year groups. On Tuesday, Early Years 3, Year 2 and Year 4 are performing their prepared songs. The following week will be Year 1, Year 3 and Year 5. The songs will be shared with parents via Class Dojo or Tapestry.

 Early Years 3 Crossing Over Ceremony

On Thursday morning, Early Years 3 will be having their “Crossing Over” Ceremony to celebrate their transition from Early Years into Primary School. All of the students are greatly looking forward to this opportunity to say goodbye to Early Years as they are welcomed into Primary.

Book Drive Initiative

As we approach the end of the 2022 academic year, we invite our Community to donate any children’s Spanish language reading books (for students aged 1 to 10) that they no longer have a use for.  All donations will be sent to the Talamanca canton where one of our graduates, Santiago Batalla, is serving as the only paediatrician in the area.  In order to support linguistic development in one of Costa Rica’s poorest communities, Santiago tries to provide the community with access to reading materials but is dependent on donations.  As a result, if you have any lightly used books (Spanish language only) that you would be willing to donate, they would go to a very good home and would be greatly appreciated.  Donations can be delivered to the Form Teacher each morning or directly to Adilia in the Primary Library.

BSCR Football

On Thursday of this week, our U11 Boys School Football Team took on the Escorpiones de Belén at Blue Valley School.  In a highly entertaining match, our team emerged victorious, winning 4 – 2.  We look forward to more games in the future – Team Photo

Secondary

National Basketball Sub-Champions (U14s, Females)

We would like to congratulate Emilia Arman on being part of the Escazú Female Basketball Team which narrowly lost 54-55 to Heredia in the fiercely contested final of the National U14s Basketball Championship.

National Games

We would like to congratulate Paola Fernández (Year 11) and Antonio Rodríguez (Y11) for being chosen to participate in the upcoming National Games.  Paola will represent the Santa Ana canton in the female cycling competition while Antonio, along with his Football Consultants teammates, will represent San José in the football tournament.  Good luck to both students!
