School Bulletin 4 – 18th of February 2022

School Bulletin

Week Four

Week four saw our Community celebrate ‘Friendship Day’ with a range of activities on Monday.  Students were also permitted to come to school wearing either white, pink or red – please see our Facebook page for photos.  This week also saw the start of our Extra-Curricular Programme with students from Early Years 1 to Year 12 participating in a range of clubs including: STEAM Club, Cooking Club, Comic Club, Taekwondo, Gymnastics, Soccer and many more.

Upcoming Dates – Reminder
We remind all members of our community that there will be no classes for students on Friday the 25th of February.  This is because it is a dedicated staff-training day.

EGMO
We are delighted to share that Nicole Lipschitz (Year 12) has been selected to represent Costa Rica at the 2022 European Girls’ Mathematics Olympiad, which will take place in April in Hungary.  To help raise funds to support this wonderful initiative, a raffle is taking place with the prize being two nights’ hospitality for five people.  For more details please click on the following link and to purchase a raffle ticket please contact 7115-7686 – Raffle Details

Clarification:
In the Gmail email sent out recently to Years 5 to 12 concerning Gate Passes, we quoted the Parents’ Handbook Regulation 1.iv.c).  This regulation was created years ago and published anew last September but now it must be modified and adapted to present reality.  The School’s right to make such adaptive changes during a crisis is included in the present Regulations.

Parent Council 2022
We are pleased to share that the Parent Council for 2022 has now been created and is made up of the following year-level Parent Representatives:

EY2 – Sue Mei Acón                                       Year 7 – Marcelle Van der Laat
EY3 – Stephanie Hudson                               Year 8 – Claire Riddell
Year 1 – Susana Aguilar                                 Year 9 – Shirley Fajardo
Year 2 – Susana Jiménez                                Year 10 – Syomara Bremont
Year 3 – Gerardo Castillo                               Year 11NB – Alicia Arias
Year 4 – Catalina Bruce                                  Year 11IB – Claire Dean

We would like to thank each of our Parent Representatives in advance for volunteering to serve as a communication channel between their allocated year group and the School’s Administration.  Meetings for the first quarter will take place between the 28th of February and the 3rd of March.  Therefore, if there are any topics of general interest (i.e. not of interest to individuals or a small group of students/families – such topics should be addressed with the relevant staff member directly) that parents would like to raise then please let the relevant Parent Representative know ahead of time.

National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC)
On Wednesday the 16th of February, Year 9 to Year 12 students were invited to a presentation about the National Student Leadership Conference by Doctor Andrea Maldonado.  This leadership-focused programme enables students to experience a career of interest at various university campuses in the United States in the months of June and July.   For more information, please visit their website, www.nslcleaders.org, or speak to Ana Lourdes Baumgartner.

Wall of Respect
This week, the BSCR community took part in an activity related to the school value of respect as part of our celebration of Friendship Day. We explored the different ways in which respect is a pillar in building healthy interpersonal relationships. With our reflections, we created the “Wall of Respect”, where you can find the answers to the question “How do you show respect in a relationship?” We invite you all to read the comments, as they demonstrate the great vision and importance that respect plays within our community.  Hyperlink – Respect Board
