Health Week
In May we will celebrate Health Week and just as we did last year, we would like to organize collaborations with parents or relatives of our students who work in professional areas such as: medicine (any field), mental health (psychologists, psychiatrists, adolescent specialists), nutrition, sports, etc. Health week will take place from May 6th to 9th so if you are interested or know someone who would like to collaborate with us, please contact T. Cleo Vasquez (cvasquez@bscr.ed.cr) for Secondary school and T. Roxana Lizano (rlizano@bscr.ed.cr) for Primary/EY.
National Honor Society (NHS) Fundraiser Activity
Next week NHS members will be holding a charity bake sale to donate funds to an organization called “Proyecto Educativo Suri” (https://proyectosuri.org/ ). The goal is to raise funds for their school in Pavas that supports underprivileged women. Sales will take place during breaks during the sports festival. Those interested in making a donation to the organization can see more information in the attached banner.

Year 1 Assembly
On Monday Year 1A presented ‘Toy-Tastic’ during the school assembly. This Quarter, Year 1 is studying the Unit of Toys. The students prepared their speeches and practiced during the previous weeks. They were very excited. Their performance was excellent, all of them were very confident and happy on stage. Parents collaborated with the costumes. Secondary
Book Week Activities
As part of our Book Week celebration our Secondary Library is organising two different activities:
We invite all Secondary students to participate in our Literary Character Drawing Contest by illustrating their favorite literary character. Students can submit their drawings throughout next week until April 22 at the Senior Library. To encourage participation, all drawings will be displayed anonymously during the voting process which will take place between the 22nd and 24th of April. The submission with the greatest number of votes will be crowned the winner.
The English, Spanish, French, and Library Departments also invite you to participate in “Whose Bookshelf Is It?”. To enter this activity please send a photo of your bookshelf to [mfuentes@bscr.ed.cr] by March 31st (do not copy other staff members). Everyone will then get the chance to guess which bookshelf photo belongs to which Community member.
Educational Talks
During this quarter, we have had two important visitors who joined us to share relevant information with our students. We would like to thank Marianella Corrales Pampillo, a Judge specializing in Juvenile Criminal Law and a Magistrate of the Third Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, for taking time out of her busy schedule to speak with Years 6 and 9 about the legal implications of these ages, the different types of crimes and their consequences, social media and their limitations, underage drug and alcohol use, bullying and cyberbullying, types of abuse, and many other topics. Students from these groups also had the opportunity to ask questions about these topics, which were developed in a way appropriate to their age and developmental stage. Both talks were very interesting and the students participated eagerly.
Sexologist Marianella Arias also shared her knowledge on the topic of sexuality with our Year 10 students. After discussing a wide range of topics, the students had an extensive question-and-answer session.
Both Judge Corrales and Sexologist Arias have visited our school for the past four years, establishing not only an important connection with the institution but also approaching their professional areas with responsibility and great skill in capturing the attention of young people. Many thanks to both experts.
Year 9 Camp
The Year 9 camp to Outward Bound Costa Rica was an unforgettable three-day adventure filled with fun activities and teamwork. Students embraced the outdoors while camping, despite the chilly temperatures. They encouraged one another during tree climbing challenges, pushing their limits by racing and even attempting the climb blindfolded.
Evenings were a highlight, as the group gathered on benches to share stories and experiences, fostering a strong sense of unity. The absence of technology encouraged creativity, with students making friendship bracelets, playing volleyball, and enjoying games of Uno. Overall, the trip was a wonderful opportunity for the students to bond and challenge themselves. We hope that it will be an unforgettable experience for all of them!
