Health Week
It is with great enthusiasm that we look forward to BSCR Health Week – 2024 starting on Monday of next week. Throughout all of the week, various activities will be held to promote the overall well-being of our community. To kick off this celebration, we invite all students and staff members to come dressed in athletic attire on Monday 2nd of September. It’s the perfect opportunity to start the week with energy! Please remember that athletic wear must adhere to the school’s dress code for non-uniform days including ensuring that attire is neither too revealing nor contains images or text that is inappropriate for a school context.

Early Years – Open House 2025
We are pleased to inform you that, on Saturday 7th of September from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm, we will be holding an Open House for all those families interested in enrolling their children in Early Years and who would like to come and see the school.  If you have any family members, friends or colleagues interested, please contact the Admissions Department via WhatsApp (8461-7965) or email (admissions@bscr.ed.cr)  for more information.

Eco-Committee
In the last few weeks the British School has resumed its initiative, which we halted during the Covid-19 pandemic, to achieve Eco-School Green Flag status.  The objective of this international programme is to encourage schools “to embark on a meaningful path towards improving the environment in both the school and the local community while at the same time having a life-long positive impact on the lives of young people, their families, school staff and local authorities.” (https://www.ecoschools.global/how-does-it-work).  The first step in this process was to create an Eco-Committee composed of student and staff volunteers.  Our School Eco-Committee is made up of: Clara Monge (EY3), Lucía Alfaro (Y4), Sofía Cortez (Y4), Miranda Guillén (Y4), Alberto Sandoval (Y4), Salvador Ruiz (Y7), Charlie Bullock (Y9), Emmy Bullock (Y11), Ela Piacentini (Y11), Teacher Natalia Hernández (EY), Teacher Giuliana Ramírez (Secondary), Teacher Javier Sánchez (Secondary) and Mr. Berridge (Administration).  The Eco-Committee will now undertake an audit of our current sustainability practices before creating an action plan aimed at improving our environmental impact as a School Community.

Earthquake Drill
This week saw our Students and Staff participate in an earthquake drill. It was very pleasing to see that our Students and Staff had clearly practiced ahead of the drill and did an amazing job in implementing our procedures during it. This is a credit to the hard work of our Staff and also the maturity and diligence of our Students. Many thanks to everyone who took part. Photo

Update on Year 7 Service Learning Project – Parque Los Ancianos
On Tuesday 27th of August, Year 7C students successfully completed the mural that the class has been working on for the last few weeks in “Parque de los Ancianos”. To celebrate the conclusion of this project, a special activity was held with the participation of senior citizens from the “Centro Diurno de Pavas”, neighbours from the community and police officers (Fuerza Pública). This mural is part of the “Comunidad Organizada” programme and is a symbol of the joint effort to recover and create safe public spaces. Congratulations to everyone involved for their dedication and commitment! Photo 1 / Photo 2 / Photo 3

Career Day 2024
On Tuesday 27th of August, our Year 10, 11, and 12 students had the opportunity to participate in our annual Career Day. The event featured 22 outstanding professionals from various fields, including several of our alumni and parents. These experts generously shared their insights and experiences, providing students with a deeper understanding of potential career paths. The students engaged actively, asking thoughtful questions and gaining valuable advice on the skills and qualifications needed to succeed in their future careers.  For a detailed overview of the event, including the speakers and sessions, please take a look at the Career Day programme.
