Registration (Matrícula) 2024
Concerning the Matrícula 2024 information sent out to all families on the 23rd of September: We would like to remind you that the annual Registration Fee (Matrícula) for the School Year 2024 should be paid during the month of October (before 2:30 pm on Tuesday the 31st of October 2023).  After that date, we cannot guarantee a place for your child/ren next year and a late fee will be applied to those payments.
We ask parents to: i) Fill in, sign and return the declaration to smadriz@bscr.ed.cr, ii) Complete, sign and send the Medical Sheet attached to infirmary@bscr.ed.cr and iii) pay the corresponding Registration fee.
ALSO simply transferring the Matricula Fee to the School’s bank account without completing the other requirements is NOT acceptable and your child/ren will not be registered for next year. In that same context, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT that you send the copy of the declaration to smadriz@bscr.ed.cr and send the Medical Sheet to the nurse at infirmary@bscr.ed.cr

Primary

House Competitions
Next week we will begin our House Competitions for the 4th Quarter. Over the next three weeks, we will be having House basketball matches and we will also be preparing for our House “Flash mob” dances over the next two weeks. Throughout this year, our Primary House Captains have continued to do an amazing job of getting our students to work together across the year groups.

Early Years 3 Visit
This quarter, the Early Years 3 children started their new IEYC unit, called “Once upon a Time”, which is focused on learning about famous stories, as well as inspiring them to create their own stories and represent them through drawings, puppets and performances.

Last week the students went to see the play “Los Tres Encantos”. This is a story that brings together several of the characters from “Los Cuentos de Mi Tía Panchita” and places them among the villages of Escazú, Aserrí and Acosta. It was a magical performance about the region’s legends, traditions and music.  The children enjoyed the performance as well as getting to know the National Theatre, seeing the stage, actors, music, and lighting. It was a magical experience for them.

Secondary

Final Assembly for Year 11 NB and Year 12 IB students
On Friday the 13th of October, we will hold our final assembly for our graduating students from both the NB and IB programs. In this assembly, our graduating students will share some of their BSCR story with all of us, and we will have a chance to remember their time at the school while also celebrating their educational journey to date.   We wish each of our graduating students the very best of luck with their upcoming final assessments.

Math Olympiad National Finalist
Congratulations to Kevin Brown (Year 6), who will compete in the Colibrí Primary Math Olympiad National Final on 25th of November from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm at the Yorkín School.  Kevin will be one of the 37 finalists in Costa Rica.  We wish him the best!

Aeronautics and Astronomy Olympiad
This week Santiago Calvo (Year 9) participated in the Aeronautics and Astronomy Olympiad, which was held in Panama, as a part of Costa Rica’s 5-student delegation.  You can read more about Santiago’s participation in this event by clicking on the following link – Olympiad Link

PSAT Administration
On Saturday 14th of October, Year 10 and Year 11 students who registered to take the PSAT will take the exam in the school Auditorium and room 39. Students should be at the school at 7:15 am. Students have already participated in a Readiness Check for the exam. They should bring their personal computer, Ipad or tablet, fully charged to take the test, a power cord and/or portable charger, an approved calculator if they wish to use it the day of the test, pen or pencil. They can bring a snack and something to drink for the break. Here is a list of what to bring on test day and a list of prohibited devices.  Here is a list of PSAT Acceptable Calculators.  Punctuality is important as after the present students start taking the test on their computer, late students can no longer be admitted to take the exam and will lose the opportunity to test. Should you have any questions please contact Ana Lourdes Baumgartner. (abaumgartner@bscr.ed.cr).
