On Thursday and Friday of last week, three coaches from the Costa Rican Rugby Federation visited our campus to provide a rugby training session to Year 4 and Year 5 students.  For many of our students, this was the first time that they had participated in this sport – Photo 1 / Photo 2

Maths Olympiad
Good luck to all students who are representing the school in a Maths Olympiad competition at the Anglo American School on Saturday.

Extra-Curricular Clubs
Clubs for this semester have now begun though we still have places available in many activities, especially in Year 4 and Year 5 football. If your child is interested in joining any club then please email Teacher Andrei (akulyk@bscr.ed.cr).

National costume
It was great seeing so many students wearing the national costume on Friday of last week; there certainly was a wonderful atmosphere as we all celebrated this special day for Costa Rica. There are many wonderful photos on Facebook and Instagram for you to see. However, please do not pack the costumes away just yet, as Independence Day celebrations are not too far away.

Secondary

Parent-Teacher Meetings
Thank you to all Secondary parents who participated in Wednesday’s Parent-Teacher meetings.  If you wanted to schedule a meeting with one of your child’s teachers, but were unable to for any reason, then please contact reception (reception@bscr.ed.cr) to organise an alternative meeting time.

Staffing Update
This week we will be saying a sad goodbye to Jearson Narváez who is leaving to take up a position as a Teacher of Mathematics at an international school in South Korea.  After seven successful years with us we send Jearson our deepest gratitude for all that he has done for our Community during his time with us and wish him the very best of luck with his new adventure.

As Jearson leaves us, we would like to provide a warm welcome to Stephen John who will be taking over Jearson’s responsibilities in the Secondary Maths Department.  Stephen, Welsh by birth, has worked in schools in a number of countries, including; Malaysia, Brazil, England and the U.A.E., and joins us from his most recent position in Istanbul, Turkey.

Digital Citizenship
This week we launched a new Digital Citizenship that, starting in 2023, will be for all students from Early Years 1 to Year 12.  This curriculum, which is provided by commonsense.org, is designed to ‘give young people the skills they need to succeed as digital learners, leaders and citizens’.  The curriculum is split into six different focus areas: Media Balance & Wellbeing, Privacy & Security, Digital Footprint & Identity, Relationships & Communication, News & Media Literacy and Cyberbullying, Digital Drama & Hate Speech.

Winners of the English Department Creative Writing Competition 2022
