As part of our Children’s Day celebrations on Friday 9th of September, the Primary School will be having a Variety Show to exhibit many of the wonderful talents our students possess.  Students who wish to participate in this event have been asked to send to Mr. Evans (mevans@bscr.ed.cr) a 1-2-minute video of their act before the end of August. Students may wish to sing, dance, perform magic or comedy or any other talent that is appropriate for the school stage. If you have any specific questions relating to this event, then please contact Mr. Evans.

IGCSE Fair
On Friday 5th of August, our IGCSE Coordinator, Ana Rojas, spoke to our Year 8 students to give them an overview of the Cambridge IGCSE programme and to review the range of options that they have to choose from for next year.  The IGCSE Fair was then held this Tuesday in our auditorium.  The Year 8 students were able to see displays and resources from all academic departments and to discuss with teachers the content of those courses available next year.  Year 8 students were sent a digital form in which they are to make their option selections.  These forms need to be completed and handed in by Friday 12th of August.  Students will be able to change their choices during the first two weeks of classes in 2023 assuming there is space available.

NB/IB Fair
Last Friday, our Year 10 students were invited to presentations by our National Baccalaureate Coordinator, Teacher María Castillo, our International Baccalaureate Coordinator, Ms. Sunday Christensen and our University Counsellor, Ms. Ana Lourdes Baumgartner.  Students were given overviews of the NB and IB programmes as well as given some guidance on university options.  On Tuesday of this week, those students then attended the IB/NB Fair where they were able to see displays and resources from all academic departments and to discuss with teachers the content of those courses available next year.  Year 10 students were given forms in which they are to make their option selections.  Those forms need to be completed and handed in by Friday 13th of September.  Students will be able to change their choices during the first two weeks of classes in 2023 assuming there is space available.

Dr. Rafael Ángel Calderón Guardia Museum

On Thursday 4th and Friday 5th of August, the Human Sciences Department organised a tour to the Dr. Rafael Ángel Calderón Guardia Museum for Year 11 NB/IB students.  Students received a talk, delivered in each of the historical rooms, about the development of the Social Guarantees in Costa Rica, a topic we have been developing in our classes.  Then the NB students had the opportunity to explore the works of art that are also on display at the moment before receiving a talk by the national painter Fernando Carballo.  On Friday, the IB students participated in a workshop where they tried, in small groups, to develop the techniques used by this artist. This experience enabled the students to not only reinforce some of their knowledge, but also provided them with the opportunity to experience a very different learning activity.  Photo 1 / Photo 2
