School Bulletin 38 – 3rd December 2021

School Bulletin

UPDATES AND NOTIFICATIONS:

WEEK IN REVIEW: Week 38 has seen both students and staff members celebrate successfully getting to the end of the academic year.  Students in all year levels from Early Years 1 to Year 9 participated in a range of fun activities throughout the last two days, while each of our Year 5 groups enjoyed their graduation ceremonies.

2021 has been one of the most challenging years in the 40-year history of The British School of Costa Rica.  However, we are extremely proud of the way in which our Community has come together to successfully overcome the various challenges that we have encountered.  We would like to send our sincerest gratitude to our students and parents for their ongoing support, dedication and flexibility – it is truly appreciated.  Finally, we would like to thank every member of the BSCR staff for the extraordinary job that they have done in the last 12 months in serving our students.

We wish every member of our community a safe, enjoyable and relaxing vacation period and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2022.

CRAZY HAIR DAY:On Friday 26th of November, all of Early Years and Primary showed amazing school spirit as we celebrated “Crazy Hair Day”. After seeing many gravity defying hairstyles we suspect that there may now be a shortage of hair gel in all of the shops! This day was also special as we were collecting money for a local charity purchasing food parcels for needy families. Thanks to our caring students, we managed to raise close to 230,000 colones. Thank you to all members of our community for their support with this initiative.

COLIBRI MATHS: Congratulations to Kevin Brown (Y4) for his participation in the National Final of the Primary (4th, 5th and 6th grades) Math Olympiad COLIBRI this past Saturday. There were 24 finalists and Kevin was one of only two students from 4th grade. The activity took place at the Sonny School in Cartago from 8am to 6:30pm and was a full day of mathematics and fun.

CHRISTMAS PRESENT PROJECT: We would like to thank all members of our community for their contributions to our annual Christmas Present Project. As with previous years, the amount of donations that we have received has been incredible – over 800 Christmas gifts have been donated thus far. The donated Christmas presents will be delivered to the following organisations in the coming days: Escuela Swalbi, Comunidad Briss, Orochico y Bambú, Fundación Santa Luisa, Hogar de Ancianos, Institución Roble Alto y Comunidad CONAI.
